LA TRAVERSEE

GROUP MOVIE • 2021

“La Traversée” is a 2nd year group movie. The aim of this project was to make an educational film on objects, old or recent, enabling an energy transition. The wind-powered car was imposed on us, invented by Pierre-Charles Hacquet, a nice invention but unfortunately one that could not be brought to fruition.

Unlike the other members of our class who preferred to make humorous movies, we tried our hand at a more poetic register. We developed a very stylized artistic direction that was really enjoyable to make. During this project, I did part of the Layout, Lookdev, Modeling of certain buildings (notably the Arc de Triomphe or Notre-Dame de Paris), surfacing, 3D animation (for example the bells), compositing, rendering and video editing. I really like this exercise, even if we had to make it in remote, because of the COVID.

LAYOUT / LOOKDEV / MODELING / SURFACING / 3D ANIMATION / LIGHTING / COMPOSITING / RENDERING / VIDEO EDITING

To step out of my comfort zone by creating a very stylized artistic direction

To model some fairly complex buildings

To animate bells (which is not easy, because of the pendulum)

• Compositing ► My compositing works well, but on certain levels my images are too overexposed. In the future, I will adjust my compositing parameters in order to improve my image and not to undermine it

• My Lighting ► My is good, but I could clearly have improved it; for example, the sequence of the bells is much too dark, while some others are too bright. In the future, I will try to do more detailed lighting that can highlight my image

WHAT I LEARNED ?

WHAT CAN I IMPROVE IN MY FUTURE PROJECTS ?
