“Barbershop” is a 4th year Layout and Lighting exercise. We had 3 days to did it. Like my other exercise "Pixar Kitchen", the goal of this exercise was to create a little staging with, this time, a barbershop scene ; the theme was "action movie", so I had to create an "action" atmosphere. 

All the difficulty was to represent an action scene with only a barbershop, without any other actor. I used the song "No Church in the Wild" by Jay-Z and Kanye West, a song that I like and which, in my personnal opinion, represents completely this "action" atmosphere. I chose to had some fog and a big yellow light of a fire to significate that outside, there is a big problem. I also chose to had a big blue police laser light to enhance the mystery and to make the spectator thinking "okay, what's going on ?" (The laser was changed later because I consider that it will be more realistic if it was more diffuse). Also, the outside light is completely different from the lights in the back of the barbershop, so it creates a really big contrast between the hot atmosphere (outside) and the cold atmosphere (inside the barbershop). I played also with sound design to retranscribe this heavy atmosphere (with the sound of police sirens and fire trucks for example).  This exercise was incredible. I once again fell in love with lighting and layout.
