RAIFORT, SAMOURAÏ

GROUP MOVIE • 2023

“Raifort, Samouraï” is a 4th grade school project. The theme of this exercise was advertising, so we had to advertise a jar of horseradish. We have only two months to make the entire project, It was our first project this short

The main challenge was our artistic direction. We decided to use Arnold's aiToon Shader, which was quite complex to use. Come to think of it, this project was very useful for our graduation movie, which required a fairly similar pipeline, although we had to take this tool and twist it to create something much more complex and innovative.

During this project, I did a part of the Layout, the Lookdev (in order to know how to use the toon shader), the Surfacing of the two characters, their assets as well as the grass. I also tried my hand at grass FX, because I had always wanted to learn FX and I was able to expand my knowledge a little thanks to this project. Then, I did the Lighting and complete Rendering of the film. Finally, I did a majority of the film's Compositing.

LAYOUT / LOOKDEV / SURFACING / GRASS FX / LIGHTING / RENDERING / COMPOSITING / VIDEO EDITING

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SEE ?

SURFACING

COMPOSITING

To use Arnold's aiToon shader

To simulate grass

To develop a very stylized pipeline

• Lighting ► I think my lighting is correct, however, not being used to using the aiToon shader, I sometimes had a little difficulty getting my lighting correctly in relation to the shader. In the future and now that I have understood how to adapt my lighting to the toon shader, I am thinking of going about it differently to lighten scenes that will use the same principle

• Compositing ► My compositing is good, but like the lighting, I think I had difficulty composing my scenes correctly compared to the toon shader. I don't think I took out the passes I should have taken out. But now that I know how to use the toon shader and what happens when it is used, in the future I will know how to composing my scenes in a more logical way

WHAT I LEARNED ?

WHAT CAN I IMPROVE IN MY FUTURE PROJECTS ?
