ROB THE ROBOT

SCHOOL EXERCICE • 2019

“Rob the robot” is a school exercise done during my studies at ENSI. The goal of this exercise was to fully explore the 3D pipeline, from modeling to final rendering. I also had to do the sound design for this project. The only constraint was to reproduce the same model as this robot and animate it in a small scene already modeled, regardless of what we made it do.

Being a big fan of the Miraculous cartoon, I decided, in terms of surfacing, to give it the same pattern as the character of Ladybug. It was a real challenge, especially to reproduce the sort of highlighted hexagons. However, this is my favorite part to do. I'm also quite proud of my animation and my rig, which work really well. I think I have a good level of animating and rigging characters and mechanical objects.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SEE ?

REFERENCE

TURNAROUND

Completed a project using a complete 3D production pipeline

To do a complete rigging of a robotic character

Trying to make fairly complex textures

To make a mechanical animation

• Lighting ► My lighting is not very successful. On the other hand, it works well for the simplicity of the scene. In the future, I will rework my lighting in order to be able to highlight my subject

• UVs ► My UVs are quite poor on the arms. At that time, I was having a hard time understanding how to properly cut my UVs to avoid texture distortion. Now, I know how to cut my UVs very well and optimize them according to my needs, in the future I intend to be extremely careful to never make such basic errors happens again
